Official Contest: “Brookline Butcher” needs a name

Our new “Brookline Butcher” needs a name, and owner Morris Naggar has authorized the Kosher Blog to officially launch the search!

To submit an entry for the contest, post a comment here and make sure you provide your real first and last name and a working e-mail address so we can contact you if you win. Winner will receive a gift certificate to the new store – amount yet to be determined (check back often).

I will close the comments to this post when the contest has concluded.

Note: See our March 11 and March 12 posts about the new butcher.

Where in Brookline is this new butcher going to be? My dad had a store in Brighton for many years so I tend to identify with these things…

Don’t make it so Jewish sounding. Think “Milk St Cafe”. They’re very successful.

Jonathan said it well in his comment on the March 12 posting:

From a marketing perspective, the “kosher” should be an afterthought, as in, “we sell awesome meat, and, oh yeah, we happen to be glatt kosher.”

If we’re thinking general market, How about:

1) “Wild Ox Delicacies”

2) “Leviathan’s Feast”

Prime Meats of Brookline

First Cut.

It refer to the quality, connotes butchery, and has implications of shechita as well.

1) Chop & Shop
2) Fresser’s Delight
3) Noah’s Ark
4) Meat Emporium
5) Naggar’s

Rob,

Thanx for the heads up, i didn’t realize there was more information there.

All their suggestions had the word “kosher”. But it is not a requirement, and won;t be in marketing as much. But if the word “kosher” or “glatt” sounds good, it sounds like it would be used.

Keep it simple and classy:

Brookline Fine Foods
Harvard Street Meats
Prime Provisions

Or, as John C suggests above, The Corner Butcher. “Corner” in this context suggesting both neighborhood-friendliness in general, and Coolidge Corner specifically.

Oops! Just scanned the list and see that The Corner Butcher was suggested first by Peleg Morris. Sorry Peleg! Great suggestion.

Simple and classy as suggested by BobB is the way to go. I like Brookline Fine Foods and Prime Provisions. One other could be simply:

Provisions

O U Provisions
O U Prime
O U Brookline
A Cut Above O U
Cut Above O U

BROOKLINE KOSHER
HARVARD STREET GOURMET
MJ’s Kosher Kitchen

Grape Leaves

a great Mediterranean delicacy
grapes for the wine, and green for go green

Well Congrats! I entered and won a naming contest that turned into a fiasco. I named “Kosher Village” but apparently was not the first one, so instead of the monetary Grand Prize was given a Gift Certificate. So here are my suggestions: Morris Meatline Company, Harvard Kosher Kuts, Glatt-Kosher Cuts, Brookline Meating Place.
