A culinary tour of Israel?
For a few years, I’ve been pondering the idea of a culinary tour of Israel — a guided trip across the country to kosher wineries, dairies, fine restaurants, and the like. Any interest out there? Does anything like it already exist?

We have one in the works. It is focused on wineries and it is designed for those on the periphery of the Jewish community who wouldnt be inclined to a more normative trip to Israel. What sparks your interest?
When my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Israel, we were delighted with the variety of fine kosher restaurants, but realized we were only experiencing the tip of the iceberg. We’ve both done traditional Israel tours before as teenagers, so we’ve seen all the typical sites, but are more comfortable visiting in a structured group setting. Plus, I imagine it would be easier to arrange tasting menu meals with a larger group behind the effort.
While I try hard to be adventurous with wine, I’m far from an oenophile, so I’m not sure a wine-focused trip is for me, but please return and share more information when available, as others may be interested.
I have seen Emunah (http://www.emunah.org/mission.php) offer some culinary-related trips – there’s currently an Israel wine trail trip advertised for July and a Tuscany kosher cooking trip for August. They ran a “cook’s tour” sometime this past year, but when I called to get more information I was told that it was for women, which I found rather unfortunate. A culinary tour would be great – and I’d definitely be interested in a wine trip, as well.
Clearly the only meaningful culinary tour of Israel must include a stop to Maoz Shwarma in Jerusalem – here is a link: http://www.dinnersite.co.il/jerusalem/maoz.htm
The Jerusalem School of Kosher Culinary Arts ( http://www.jskca.org.il/ ) has a summer program that offers what you are looking for.
Thanks for the link, duvy. What I have in mind is more like a 10-day trip, not a whole month, but incorporating the JSKCA as a stop on the trip might be a good idea.
Oh, and for men and women. The JSKCA summer program is single-sex.
Jabbett, if you are interested give a shout, I have a nighbor who is a tour operator, and another who is a vintner, and he just won an all israel compation for desert wine with a kosher port. (Its quite nice)
FYI the summer program at JSKCA is not single sex.. it is actually mixed… (but please.. shhhh don’t tell anyone or the frum police will kick up a rukus!)
i just got back from isreal i did my own culinary tour and yes tzvi i did go to moaz and loved it but the 2 finer dining resturants i thought were best was gabril’s right near ben yehuda just a great menu and food deff get the veal carpaccio and really evrything was great except the goose leg confit wasnt done right and the veal tartar tasted more like the ceviche and way too cured. the other resturant if hidden of the shuk its called zachiku a real isreali nighborhood place so its cheap and just really great food and evry friday they have a speacial menu. and the meat resturant 1868 across from davids citidel is overrated and way overpriced
Gavna in Gush Etzion is great both for food and great sights and ambiance. They have great veiws of Jerusalem and have great dairy food.

fyi the emunah trip “a culinary tour of tuscany” mentioned above took place in august and has had incredible feedback from participants – men and women. emunah is planning more trips, but meantime they are taking place almost every month: details direct from the organizers are available on http://www.naomicatering.com/tuscany
Don’t forget to visit the Yarden Winery! It’s absolutely worth the trip to Katzrin.
