Kosher in… Stoughton?

Attention IKEA shoppers… only minutes away from your favorite Swedish furniture mecca — and down the street from the Striar Jewish Community Center — is Eastern Massachusetts’s newest kosher spot. Accoridng to an e-mail sent to members of the Young Israel of Sharon, Deja Vu Cafe at 516 Washington Street, Stoughton (Route 138) is under the kosher supervision of Rabbi Mendi Horowitz from the Canton Chai Center (Chabad). The cafe serves Israeli food and ice cream.

I’m sure this is a welcome development for South Shore Jews.

I called Deja Vu Cafe (note the spelling) in Stoughton and learned the following:

- Monday to Thursday - 6:00 am to 9:00 pm

One of the owners, Jacob Modzgabrishvili, tells me that:

- he is personally Shomer Shabbos and Shomer Mitzvot,
- the cafe is under the kosher supervision of Rabbi Mendi Horowitz from the Canton Chai Center (Chabad).

The cafe serves:

- Israeli food, such as:
- Falefel (plate or sandwich)
- Sabiah (eggplant, humous, spices with hard boiled egg)
- Borekas (cheese and potato)
- Kosher Ice Cream – Chalav Israel – Kleins

Once proper permits and venting is secured, the cafe plans to serve pizzas, likely within one month

Current seating is limited to about 10 or 12 people, with cafe planning to add seating for up to 30 to 40 people

The owner is a great man and makes great food. It is a fun place go visit!

I was there today and it was really good. I was told that after Pesach it will change from dairy to serve meat including schwarma.

Deja Vu, soon to be re-named Shalom Tel Aviv, is now under the supervision of the KVH. We are Cholov Yisrael and Pas Yisrael, and offer a variety of Israeli foods as well as home-made pizza and selections from our newly instralled griddle. We welcome your business, drop in and say hello.

Jacob
