The things you find on eBay

Some peculiar kosher-themed eBay spottings this week:

Someone’s old bottle of Magen David wine … “sweetened with excess sugar”

1920s era boxed Rokeach Kosher Soap … with Yiddish/English text. At $3.25, may actually be cheaper than a new bar of pesadik soap!

SS United States Kosher-Milchig Platter … bidding begins at only $125!

1955 RMS Mauretania Kosher Menu
… to round out the kosher cruise line offerings.

…and this

I once purchased a combination Seder Plate / Matzah Holder off ebay. It was round and the top was a silvertone seder plate space. Underneath was space for the three hand-shmurah matzas and it had a velvet-like curtain around it. It was listed as a covered Jewish snack tray (with no gallery picture and the word snack spelled incorrectly). The seller thought it was for outdoor picnics and the curtain was was to keep the bugs off the food. I got a good deal on it because most potential buyers never bother to open the auction and see what the item really was.

I collect etrog holders and buy them on eBay all the time. Most people have no clue what they are, so if you’re willing to put in search time, you can find them pretty cheap. “Weird round box with Hebrew lettering” is the usual description.
