I e-mailed Cappielo about the avilability of their cheeses and their response was as follows:

“You should be able to find our products in Super Fresh starting February 1st, 2006. If they are not in ask your dairy manager.

If those stores are too far you can purchase our products directly off our internet site.

I haven’t seen Cappiello at the Super Fresh in NW, but it’s a good bet the Super Fresh in Aspen Hill has some.

I have seen the Cappiello cheeses at Wegman’s in Sterling, Virginia, but just the specialty types-the marinated or scamorza, for example. These do not compete, price-wise, with what the regular mozzarella was selling for at Trader Joe’s. Interestingly, the article also mentions it will be sold at Safeway and at Walmart supercenters, but then says this will be with an emphasis on the specialty cheeses as opposed to the regular mozzarella. Let’s hope that the regular mozzarrella shows up somewhere at a reasonable price.

This article explains that Cappiello standard Mozzarella cheese is available at Price Chopper, Hannaford, Wegman’s and Stewart’s Shops, among other stores.

Capiello is currently available at Fairway in NYC, aged and fresh mozzarella alike.

I once asked a wholesaler in this area if they could order a case of Cappiello 1-lb. blocks, and they said they could. Since the price wasn’t any better than Trader Joe’s, I didn’t take it any further, but it may be worth pursuing now that TJs doesn’t carry it!

Similarly, I’ve contacted both Shaw’s and Stop & Shop about carrying 1-lb. Cappiello mozzarella in addition to their braided varieties, but it’s apparent my pleas weren’t successful.

Another problem - for New Yorkers anyway - they can’t process New York orders! Must be a tax thing.

Has anyone tried ordering the Capiello through a local grocery store? I wonder if some of the better grocery stores would do that. I also wonder if our local Kosher grocery store would do that, or would they have some kind special deal with Miller’s and Migdal that prevents them from getting other brands.

David– You’re right. I had no idea the selection would both be so limited and so pricey. All I ever wanted was a way to buy their plain 1-lb. blocks now that TJ’s doesn’t carry them. Very disappointing.

I just went to the site to see what they had. So far, they have limited selection at very high prices. Basically, 3 pounds of mozzarella for over $50. I knew there would be shipping charges, and I would be able to get it at the $3-$4 per pound that I could at Trader Joe’s, but this is way over my budget.
