Kosher Blog

Announcing the new Kosher Blog layout!

For the last several weeks, when I haven’t been cooking or posting to the blog, I’ve quietly been working on a new layout for the site, and tonight, it’s finally ready. I not only wanted to give the site a more refined look, but also provide standards-compliant HTML and a better cross-browser experience.

This redesign also includes the migration of the site from the “b2evolution” blogging engine to WordPress, which, so far, has been much easier to configure and extend.

If you encounter any strange behavior, I would greatly appreciate a short comment to this post explaining what happened, so that I might fix any lingering problems. Thanks!

Unbroken text that is longer that the width of comment boxes does not wrap, it overflows out of the comment box. An example can be seen in the “I hate my crockpot” comments section. I will also try to show it here:

How do you like the auto-scrolling I’ve implemented? Unless you have any other ideas, I think that’s the only reasonable solution.

Looks very nice!

Very nice and sleek! I’ve noticed one thing — on the main page header, the green behind “Kosher” is different from the rest of the stripe. But on individual pages it’s seamless.

Nice redesign. The gif-text menu is a bit blurry. If you made it in Illustrator, you should rasterize it – 72 dpi, set to text – before saving for web. If you made it in Photoshop, you should try someother anti alias or try no anti aliasing for a sharper read.

All my graphics work is done in Photoshop. I’ll make the menu items darker and try some different dithering techniques.

I’ve noticed that color issue on Internet Explorer, but strangely it doesn’t appear in my Firefox browser. I’ll make the image background clear to skirt the issue altogether.

Thanks!
