Sweet Satisfaction closing

We received word last week (sorry for the delay) that Sweet Satisfaction (318 Harvard St., Brookline) will be closing at the end of the month. Starting tomorrow, all products (including fixtures and equipment) will be going on sale.

Emily, the owner, hopes to “get a website up and running within the next year that will focus on specialty products.”

That’s too bad. It’s always disappointing to hear about a kosher establishment closing. Just further confirmation that the Boston Jewish community can’t, or won’t, support the kosher market. Let’s face it, we’re a second-rate kosher town, at least outside the home.

Too bad. I don’t live in Boston anymore, but I wonder if even second-rate might be a generous ranking.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. I used to live in Boston and I definately miss Milk Street Cafe. Outside of New York City, most towns, even ones with large kosher-keeping populations, don’t have any kosher establishment downtown; they are always located in the Jewish neighborhood. This makes it difficult for business lunches or for employers that want to accomodate kosher needs at office functions. Also, dont take the omnipresence of the KVH for granted. You can travel almost anywhere in New England and find kosher packaged donuts and other local products with hashgaga. And JP Licks is certainly a unique place to be proud of!
