Milchig, Fleishig, Pareve — what are they?

Milchig, Fleishig, Pareve — certainly the indefatigable KosherBloggers know what these three words mean, but what’s the appropriate way to refer to them as a group?

Either we’re going to find the right term somewhere, or we’re going to coin it here! Some possibilities, none of which strike me as perfect:

* Kosher Ingredient Classes
* Kosher Food Types
* Kashrut Categories

We always went with "gender" as in "Mom! What gender is this tupperware?"

We call them "genders" too. I have even asked people, "what gender are you?" before serving milchig. Of course they have to know what you are talking about or they could get offended!

Ditto re: "Gender"

meat-status?

Our family calls them "Flavor"s. What do you think?

I’ve heard both "gender" and "ilk," the latter being the one my wife and I use for our own dishes.

I vote for gender
