iGourmet.com Kosher Cheese

Just spotted a Kosher cheese sectionicon at iGourmet.com — currently includes brie, boursin, swiss, and blue cheese. I’ve asked for more information about who certifies each product.

Perishable shipping costs (FedEx overnight) are consistent with other sites, starting at around $16 first pound.

UPDATE: Received details from iGourmet on hashgacha. Danablu certified by Bet Din of London, Frantal Swiss certified by Rabbi Schlessinger of Geneva, French Brie has been discontinued, and Barkaniticon (out of stock at the moment, should be back next week) is certified by the Israeli Rabbinate and the Rabbi of Gilboa Valley.

BS"DI have been getting some good to wonderful cheeses lately, thanks to Pierre Sebban of L.A. Kosher Food Co.(tel: 310-273-5541, fax: 310-273-1716) in Beverly Hills. These are all co-op produced cheeses, and the quality varies, but the kashrus of all seems to be exemplary. I’m not particularly enamored with the Brie (ordinary) or the Morbiere (bland, as are all Morbieres), but they have an excellent mold-ripened goat cheese, a very capable Camembert, a very decent French Gruyere (lacking a bit the propionic bacterial tang characteristic of Gruyere and Emmenthaler, but sound and flavorful nonetheless), and a wonderful mountain cheese from the Jura, extremely aromatic. They have a few others to try as well. All in all, the best selction of French cheeses I’ve come across, although lacking a few of my favorites. The best part, for observant Jews,is that these are cholov yisroel under 2 excellent hashgachos fromo Strassbourg, Rav Seckbach and Rav Schlessinger. Now if we can only get Livarot, and a few other riper cheeses, I’ll be set.Craig WinchellGAN EDEN Wines
