Morningstar Farms “Breakfast Strips”
Seven years of keeping kosher may have numbed my taste for treyf, but it hasn’t eliminated it. Thankfully, Morningstar Farms can keep me on the right track with their Veggie Breakfast Bacon Strips product. In terms of taste and texture, it’s leaps and bounds above Litelife’s Smart Bacon. Smart Bacon, however, is pareve (Breakfast Strips are dairy), so they still have a place in my pantry.

Jabbett! Even though my version of keeping kosher translates to "pork is gross but shrimp is yummy", I love the site–particularly since between my vegetarian friends and my lactose-intolerant/milk-allergy friends, I end up seeking out kosher products and recipes all the time. (Speaking of which, while it’s not yet timely, epicurious.com has an amazing recipe for kosher-for-Passover chocolate torte with raspberry sauce that I’ve made for a few years now–it’s also an excellent year-round fancy dessert, and the sauce is great on all sorts of things. Here’s a link (http://www.epicurious.com/r...), if you’re interested.)
Gwen: This will be my first year hosting the entire family for Passover (we’re the only ones with a truly kosher home), so I’m starting to plan early… and the recipe in that link looks great. I’ve been hunting for an easy flourless chocolate cake recipe to call my own. (My father is a diabetic, so I may try substituting some of the sugar with Splenda. Will post the result!)
Re Jabbett’s comment about "substituting some of the sugar with Splenda," what makes you think that Splenda is kosher for Passover? The info I saw from the O-U, which certifies it for everyday use, indicates that it is NOT kosher for Passover. If you have other information, I would like to know.
True, true. I guess it was just my hope that it would be. When I’m at my Kosher market next, I’ll scope out their artificial sweeteners.
if you want the real thing try the rubashkin "beef fry" its the closest thing to bacon trust me i’m the cook
